How Do We Train IT Professionals for the Mobile World?

By Bob Austin

I have already blogged on the fact that the recession is over. Obama said it. So with it officially over you and I can start spending money again. One of those areas which all of us will spend is on a smartphone. If you don’t have one, or even if you do, get ready for an explosion of new devices coming out this year.

We do love our Blackberries (#1) but there are iPhones, Android and Symbols too. In fact, there are lots more and Mobile Device Management (MDM) has become the new buzz word. MDM is a wrapper around all the nasty truths about how to manage workers who have these mobile devices. Challenges such as security, integrity, inventory, updating and cost controls come into play when workers suddenly start using these mobile devices for everyday tasks.

IT Professionals need a vast amount of skills to deploy to and support this mobile community. How will we teach it? What is worse, more and more apps are being pushed out to the mobile device and now we have the challenge of supporting our business apps on an entirely new platform. And you thought supporting 5,000 users of Windows XP was bad. Getting your employees on the same releases, managing their problems and keeping what they do for the company with that device secure is an absolute huge challenge.

Just another area of growth for the opportunities that exist out there to train IT professionals. As always, I look forward to your continued feedback and feel free to contact me anytime at aust1648@gmail.com
