How is your job? Are you skilled in the right industry? Or more important for the IT trainers, are you busy? I ask this since just this past week there have been several local newspapers that have run encouraging articles about the IT job market.
Seems there has been a significant rise in the number of IT job listings. In fact, TEKsystems reported that the number of opening were equal to June of 2008. Overall job prospects have risen for six consecutive months and show no signs of abating! So what’s hot?
- Systems engineering and support, Maybe not everything is being outsourced.
- Oracle Data Base Management, perhaps this is why Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle, was ranked as the highest paid executive over the last 10 years.
- Software development and quite a few in the Mobile App marketplace…There’s and App for that
- Training/tech writing, yes, we make the list
From a skills perspective, nothing new announced here. The marketplace is still looking for Microsoft MCSE’s, C++, Java, XML, Unix and Linux. Seems like these skills and the demand for them may never change. Hasn’t Unix been around for like 50 years yet there is still a demand for it? Just goes to show, IT skills are not only useful in the marketplace, many of them will last you an entire career.
It’s always nice to have others reinforce what we already know. IT skills are useful and IT trainers even more. My personal favorite single sentence from all the articles comes from LocalTechWire which ended their article with “Refresh your job skills, perhaps retrain yourself, update the resume and go after a high-tech job.” Now isn’t that comforting that others are helping us IT Trainers stay employed.
