Xe - A top 10 training outsourcing firm?

By Doug Harward

Xe (pronounced like the letter Z) is one of the largest training outsourcing firms in the world, and it's a good chance you have never heard of them. That's because Xe is the rebranded name of Blackwater USA, the military services company which has been embattled with the Iraqi government, then denied in January of 2009 a license to continue operating there.

So why do I say they are one of the largest training outsourcing firms? When they lost their license to operate in Iraq, they rebranded themselves as Xe and are now focused on training for corporate security, police professionals, and military security. Their training center in Moyock, N.C., named the U.S. Training Center, provided more than 40,000 student days of training in 2008.

It's not clear just how big their training business is, but if you consider the military and police training combined with the corporate and business offerings, my estimate is they may be as much as $200 million annually. It was estimated that in 2008, Blackwater USA did as much as $1b in total sales, primarily through the US Government for security related services in the Middle East.

Curriculums for the corporate workplace include titles such as Cultural Diversity for Supervisors, Sexual Harassment for Supervisors, Sexual Harassment for Employees, Violence in the Workplace and Drugs in the Workplace.  Another interesting offering through SRVright.com (one of their many brands including Backup Training, Aviation Worldwide Services, Presidential Airways, Inc., and more) is their alcohol server training for the food and beverage industry.

By the way, another reason you haven't heard of them...try and find a website for Xe Training. You probably won't; but you will find plenty of blogs and news stories about their past.
