Managing Partners Author Article About CSR for Washington Post
Morgantown,
W.Va., February 4, 2010 – Joe Frontiera and Dan Leidl recently authored an
article for the Washington Post’s “On
Leadership” section regarding leadership and corporate social responsibility.
Frontiera
happened upon the story of Chapman’s Ice Cream, Canada’s largest independent
ice cream manufacturer. Chapman’s largest plant, which employed close to 350
people, had the potential to devastate the 1,200-person town of Markdale, Ontario
when it was destroyed in an early morning fire in September of last year. Husband and wife owners, Penny and David
Chapman, made the extraordinary decision to rebuild and continue paying all of
their employees through the process.
Frontiera and Leidl were so taken by the story that they placed a call to Penny. “It
seems that stories of corporate greed have dominated the headlines lately, but
this was incredibly refreshing. I wanted to talk to Penny about her rebuilding
efforts and the general concept of corporate social responsibility, as the
Chapmans have offered an exceptional example from which all corporate leaders
can learn,” says Frontiera.

Washington Post’s On Leadership section was
designed to generate discussion about topics related to leadership. As founders
Steve Pearlstein and Raju Narisetti state on their website, their “hope is that
On Leadership will serve as an open and lively forum for an discussion of what
makes for great leadership.”
