Columbus, OH students in Downtown High School
create multimedia computer-based training courses to improve performance on
standardized exam.
Rapid Intake is the leading
provider of collaborative e-Learning software for developing online courses.
22-January-2010 – Provo, UT – What is
the best way to learn something? According to a recent collaboration between
Rapid Intake and Ohio State University, the answer is “Build an e-learning
module that teaches someone else.” Rapid Intake (http://www.rapidintake.com),
a rapid interactive e-learning software company announced that a partnership
with Downtown High School in Columbus has helped students improve test scores
and increase retention.
Rapid
Intake donated an unlimited license to Downtown High School for creating
Flash-based lessons distributed on the Internet to train students on essential
Web technologies. This interactive training helped inner-city students
become proficient Web users and enabled them to increase test scores 40-60%
over last year.
"Our
students were struggling to pass the required exam on basic Web technology.
After we began using Rapid Intake, we saw a dramatic increase in retention and
test scores." said Brad Henry, an instructional designer from Ohio State
University. "Having
students create lessons for themselves and their peers using Rapid Intake has
proven to be a highly effective method for us."
Using
Rapid Intake’s e-learning software for computer-based training, students collaboratively created
interactive Flash-based online courses for themselves and their peers. Students
then used the engaging lessons to prepare for a standardized, computer-based
exam.
This
approach appears to have yielded three significant benefits. First, students
mastered content because they were required to build e-learning courses that
would teach other students. Second, students building the courses learned how
to use state-of-the-art e-learning course authoring software. Third, student
test scores improved significantly.
“We’re
impressed with OSU’s creative use of our rapid interactive e-learning
software,” says Garin Hess, Rapid Intake CEO. “There is so much you can do with
the flexibility in our software and licensing models. It’s great to see it used
for such a good purpose with such excellent results.”
