WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA) today announced Social Learning eXchange (SLX) Enterprise, a Software-as-a-Service, video community platform for the enterprise that helps enable employees, business partners and customers to more effectively communicate, collaborate and network. The SLX Enterprise platform was designed to help organizations improve individual engagement and productivity resulting in enhanced business performance.
"The demand for community solutions inside of corporations is exploding," said Josh Bersin, CEO of Bersin & Associates, a leading research and consulting services firm in enterprise learning and talent management. "Solutions like the Social Learning eXchange Enterprise, which are scalable and easy to use, give corporate training, HR, sales, marketing, and IT organizations a powerful way to combine subject matter experts and user-generated content. As a result, users can quickly develop community solutions focused on collaboration and social learning, and drive immediate business impact."
"One of the most important elements of successful team collaboration is how engaged employees are with one another as well as with customers and partners," said Charles Beckham, CTO of Sun Learning Services. "The use of SLX Enterprise at Sun has helped fueled the building of online communities and dramatically increased collaboration among key company stakeholders. Now, Sun champions can more rapidly distribute content to the public in a dynamic and scalable way not previously possible."
A powerful, easy-to-use video community platform, SLX Enterprise can be applied to critical business functions including sales enablement, marketing communications, employee collaboration, training and social learning. While usage of online video sharing sites such as YouTube is exploding, these traditionally consumer-focused services face limitations when implemented in the enterprise. Organizations want a system that is designed for the needs of the enterprise--one that is built with a high level of security, reliability, internal integration and scalability as well as rich video and social capabilities. The ability to solve real business problems and provide measurable results is also a key consideration.
SLX Enterprise consists of unique features to help empower organizations.
-- User-generated content to allow employees, partners and customers to capture, upload, and distribute information amongst each other and the community. -- Leverage social media information sharing capabilities including tagging, commenting, rating, and sharing of content. -- Provide access to content on demand, any time or anywhere, whether through a web browser or a mobile device, such as the iPhone or the iPod Touch.
SLX Enterprise has been in use by Sun enterprise-wide for the past twelve months, and is currently serving as the engine for capturing and sharing content at JavaOne(SM) 2009, one of the largest developer conferences in North America. Java University(SM) and CommunityOne sessions will be available on SLX Enterprise, as well as through a native SLX Enterprise iPhone application, which will give conference attendees immediate mobile access to session content.
SLX Enterprise is currently available in beta and will be generally available in July 2009. For more information, including a demo, please visit http://www.slx.com/. For iPhone or iPod Touch users, download the "SLX Expo" application from the iTunes App Store, to test drive SLX Enterprise on a mobile device.
Sun announced the availability of SLX Enterprise at the American Society for Training and Development's (ASTD) International Conference and Exposition from May 31-June 3, 2009 in Washington, DC. SLX Enterprise can be seen at booth # 2715 at the ASTD show.
SLX Enterprise can also be seen at booth 434 at the JavaOne conference from June 2-June 4, 2009.
