Josh’s background includes 2 years as Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at DigitalThink, Vice President of Marketing, Products, and Sales at Arista Knowledge Systems, Director of Product Management at Sybase, and 10 years in sales and marketing at IBM. At Bersin & Associates, Josh and his team are totally focused on identifying best practices, trends, and new technologies in corporate e-learning. Josh has a BS from Cornell University, an MS from Stanford, and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.
Josh is the author of “The Blended Learning Book: Best Practices, Proven Methodologies, and Lessons Learned” – a comprehensive review of the principles and winning strategies for blended learning in corporate training applications.
As an independent researcher, analyst and consultant, Dr. David Metcalf combines business sense and technology efficiencies to provide performance results. His approach has saved companies millions of dollars while guiding business transformations for learning organizations. Specific areas of focus include: learning business strategy, performance measurement, operational excellence, outsourcing, blended learning and mobile learning.
Dr. Metcalf was formerly the Chief Learning Technologist at RWD Technologies. There he was responsible for the analysis, design and strategic alignment of RWD’s technology solutions for learning. He ran high-level strategy and transformation engagements at well know companies such as 3Com, Fujitsu, Roche Diagnostics, Rolls-Royce and FedEx Ground. Dr. Metcalf also led the development of several award-winning mobile learning innovations.
He joined RWD with the sale of his NASA Kennedy Space Center laboratory spin-off company- Merrimac. Prior to spin-off, he was the Lead Multimedia Designer at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. He was responsible for the outsourced management and operations of the award-winning multimedia laboratory.
Dr. Metcalf holds a B.A. in Computer Graphics from the University of Texas, an M.S. in Computer-Based Learning and a Ph.D. in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University and keeps current by continuing to hold appointments at several universities.
A frequent speaker at major learning and development conferences around the world, Dr Metcalf is also the co-author of the book titled: Blended eLearning: Integrating Knowledge, Performance Support and Online Learning and recently participated as chapter author on “Operational Excellence Through Blended Learning” for Elliott Masie’s upcoming book- Rants, Raves and Reflections in Learning. He is currently completing mLearning: Mobile Learning and Performance scheduled for later this year.
