BOSTON – AUGUST 7, 2012 – Lancaster General Health, a three-hospital not-for-profit healthcare system in south central Pennsylvania, is providing 400 leaders across the system with access to Harvard ManageMentor®, a comprehensive online learning solution that addresses a broad range of business issues. Harvard ManageMentor is an offering of Harvard Business Publishing, a leading provider of leadership development solutions. LG Health is implementing Harvard ManageMentor as the centerpiece of an initiative to create a cadre of agile leaders equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to navigate today’s complex and continuously changing health care environment.
“The business model in healthcare is changing every day,” said Kay Brady, LG Health’s vice president of human resources. “The only way we successfully manage the changes we face – including new technology, government regulation, cost controls, medical breakthroughs, and demographic pressures – is by developing agile leaders. We believe that lifelong learning is fundamental to creating and maintaining an agile mindset. With Harvard ManageMentor, we’re providing our leaders the tools to develop the skills and knowledge they’ll need to succeed in this environment.”
Harvard ManageMentor is comprised of 44 modules which address fundamental management topics. LG Health is implementing Harvard ManageMentor as:
- part of a structured, cohort-based learning initiative;
- an element of its performance process, which includes a Harvard ManageMentor-based competency requirement and an elective requirement tied to an independent development plan; and,
- within the learning infrastructure that supports its administrative and physician leaders with ad hoc access to practical information that can be quickly assimilated and put to immediate use.
“We’re proud to be working with Lancaster General Health,” said Ray Carvey, executive vice president, corporate learning and international, Harvard Business Publishing. “The organization brings a level of professionalism and an approach to leadership development and lifelong learning that is more typical of a major medical center. We’re excited to contribute to their success.”
With Harvard ManageMentor, LG Health is seeing an immediate impact. A recent survey showed that:
- 93% of those who have used Harvard ManageMentor have applied it on the job;
- 93% believe it will improve their job performance; and,
- 81% stated that it has already improved their job performance.
“Achieving a true return on investment in the learning world can be challenging,” said Brady, “But with Harvard ManageMentor, our managers are pleased with the quality of the content, what they are learning about themselves, and the development of leadership skills they can use on the job.”
